The project is located on the old Chania-Kissamos highway, in the community of Platanias, west of Chania, Crete. Within the 2,000 m2 property a multi-story reinforced concrete building with 3 basements has been constructed. The excavation depth was of the order of 11.50-15.00 m. In the NW and NE adjacent properties there existed two-story buildings without basement in contact with the common property line.

Design of the deep excavation support system, which included reinforced shotcrete supported by steel piles and inclined prestressed anchors (Berlin method). Underpinning of one adjacent building with micropiles. Due to the extraordinary ground water ingress (» 500 m3/h) a ground water control system during construction was designed, which included 6 external perimeter deep pumping wells and an internal drainage system beneath the foundation. Supervision of the underground support system construction and monitoring of movements with inclinometers.
