PROJECT | Dredging of approach channel and port basin and expansion of wharves of Stylida Port. Design of quays’ foundations. |
OWNER | PREFECTURE OF FTHIOTIDA |
GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION CONTRACTOR | GEOCONSULT Ltd. |
DATES OF GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION | June 2008 – June 2009 |
The Port of Stylida consists of a quay approximately 750 m long, which extends along the coast, and a pier perpendicular to the quay, which is approximately 120 m wide and 150 m long. The operational depths of the port basin do not exceed 7.00 m. Due to the small depths of the gulf of Stylida, the approaching vessels follow a navigation channel.
The expansion of Stylida Port includes the following:
- Expansion of the east quay of the pier over a length of 50 m.
- Construction of a quay along the head of the pier, which will be 110 m
- Construction of a quay 116 m long along the west side of the pier.
- Filling and covering of the pier with concrete at least 20 cm thick for the creation of port land area.
- Dredging of the port basin up to level –8.00 m in the area of commercial ship maneuvering and up to level –3.50 m in the area of the fishing and touristic boats as well as in the area of the west quay of the pier (estimated dredged area of the port basin 160,000 m2).
- Construction of 360 m long quays at the eastern part of the port, for accommodating fishing and touristic boats. Promenades will be created behind the quays.
Dredging of the approach channel, of a total area of approximately 82,000 m2), up to elevation -8.00 m and widening of the channel up to 70 m at its bottom level (for accommodating container ships <10.000 DWT).
Drilling 6 on-shore and 7 off-shore exploratory boreholes of 190 m total depth and 6 dynamic penetration tests (DPSH), with the relevant laboratory tests, preparation of a factual and interpretive report and foundation proposals. Geotechnical design of quay’s foundations.
